Paris Olympics 2024, India Day 2 Live Updates: Follow all the sporting action from Day 2 of the Olympics in Paris.
India at Paris Olympics 2024 Day 2 Recap: After the heartbreak in Tokyo, Manu Bhaker created history to become the first ever Indian woman to win a shooting medal in the history of the Olympic Games as she clinched bronze in women’s 10m air pistol. Manu had scored 580 points to finish third in the qualifications. And after consistent shooting in the final, she finished third again, missing out on 2nd place and silver by the smallest of margins.
Elsewhere, there was good and bad news in the 10m air rifle women’s qualification as Ramita Jindal qualified for final but Elavenil Valarivan missed out after a heartbreaking penultimate shot. In the men’s air rifle qualification, Arjun Babuta qualified for final too, to bring more cheer. Arjun and Ramita will be in action in the final on Monday.
Late in the night, tennis contention came to a close as Rohan Bopanna-Sriram Balaji lost in straight sets.
In archery, the Indian women’s team simply didn’t going as they lost 0-6 in the quarterfinals against Netherlands and missed out on the chance to fight for a medal.

In badminton, PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy kickstarted her group-stage campaigns with straight-games wins. Two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen has been has been handed a tough draw but she started off with a come-from-behind win against Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer. Tougher tests await but the Indian got off to a good start. There was heartbreak for Sumit Nagal in tennis and Achanta Sharath Kamal in table tennis as they lost close matches. Harmeet Desai also lost to end India’s men’s singles contention. But paddlers Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula registered good wins to progress.
In rowing, Balraj Panwar finished 2nd in his repechage heat to enter the main quarterfinals, which will take place on Tuesday.

First things first, a brief background to this match (Via PTI): The flamboyant Gael Monfils will partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the men's doubles opener against India's Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji with Fabien Reboul pulling out of the contest due to an injury, here Saturday. The last-minute entry of Monfils may have a bearing on the match with Bopanna all set and prepared to take on the combo of Reboul and Roger-Vasselin. World number 30 Monfils had reached the third round at Wimbledon, losing to Grigor Dimitrov. On the way to round 3, the 37-year-old stylish shot-maker had scalped Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka. Guatemalan men’s singles player Kevin Cordon has withdrawn from the Olympic Games Paris 2024 badminton competition due to a left elbow injury. His remaining Group L matches against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie (Court 2, 2pm local time, 29 July 2024) and Julien Carraggi of Belgium (Court 3, ‘Not Before’ 9.20am local time, 31 July 2024) will not be played. Matches on these courts in each respective session have been rescheduled. As per BWF General Competition Regulations for group stage play, the results of all matches played, or yet to be played, involving Cordon in Group L are now considered deleted.
That line has some significance for India as Cordon is in the same group as Lakshya Sen, who he already lost against. But this announcement means that this group now effectively becomes a three-man group (like others) and Lakshya's match against Kevin doesn't matter.

A good start to the second game for Prannoy, despite moving to the supposed tough side where some big names have dropped games today. An absolutely lovely touch at the net that Gopi sir would've been proud to see, completely outsteps Roth there.

Where Fabian Roth has succeeded is in alternating flanks and sending Prannoy left and right. The German is tall but he prolongs rallies invariably on the back of picking really low shuttles endlessly. But it was expected that Prannoy would up the pace and accelerate mid rally as soon as the 17-point hovered. Prannoy takes the first 21-18 with aggression on the net.

Fabian Roth gave Prannoy a good fight post interval, Prannoy had to dig deep quite a bit, but found his rhythm again in time to take the opening game 21-18. Kashyap acts as translator for what was told to Prannoy in the mid-game interval. He has been told to push Roth back and then rush the net. (Among other things)

HS Prannoy has settled back into a good rhythm. Longer rallies, Prannoy is doing well to draw Roth front and then pushing him back with good distances on his lifts. Another good whipped forehand smash for 19-17.
